Dental Implant Surgery 101

This course offers a one-of-a-kind experience by using fresh/frozen cadavers. Cadavers are fresh frozen and thawed before use, providing a realistic operative experience for participants. Fresh/frozen cadavers provide an environment that is superior to any simulated dental implant technique. Participants will obtain knowledge and confidence to incorporate implant surgery into their practice.

Course Information
This course offers a one-of-a-kind experience by using fresh/frozen cadavers. Cadavers are fresh frozen and thawed before use, providing a realistic operative experience for participants. Fresh/frozen cadavers provide an environment that is superior to any simulated dental implant technique. Participants will obtain knowledge and confidence to incorporate implant surgery into their practice.

Lecture material covers patient examination and surgical anatomy in detail. Surgical instrumentation and techniques including incision, flap management, osteotomy, and suturing in implant placement surgery.The course provides five (5) hands-on sessions starting with wooden blocks, and dentiforms and progressing to Day 2 PM, at Miami Anatomical Research Center (MARC) where participants will place dental implants in freshly frozen thawed cadavers.
Speaker Information
Taeheon Kang DMD,MS
Born and raised in South Korea,Taeheon had the honor of attending Seoul National University Dental School—the most prestigious program in the country. Inspired by the fields of periodontics and implant dentistry, he went on to receive his specialty training in periodontics from Seoul National University in 1996. After earning his certificate in periodontics, he was determined to move to the United States. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his second training in periodontics and implant dentistry.

As a result, Taeheon is the only periodontist who has completed a periodontal residency in both Korea and the United States. After eight years of his dedication and commitment to the University of Pennsylvania and Nova Southeastern University as an educator and a clinician, he opened his private practice in Fairfax, Virginia.

Dr. Kang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and the recipient of several teaching awards, including the 2005 American Academy of Periodontology Educator’s Award. He is a national and international lecturer in the field of periodontics and implant dentistry and an author of numerous clinical articles in authoritative dental journals.

Nova Southeastern University School of Dental Medicine designates this program for 18 hours of continuing education credit.
